Stravinsky - Petrouchka & Le Sacre Du Printemps (the four-hands piano transcriptions)

Genre: Classical

Piano transcriptions of classical composers’ orchestral works are not all that uncommon. Often the piano transcription was the working blueprint for the final orchestral composition. Other times, the compose created a piano transcription afterward. Igor Stravinsky did the latter with Petrouchkaat the request of Arthur Rubinstein. That particular transcription was a two hand solo work but Stravinsky later created a four-hand transcription. He also compose a four hand transcription for his ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) .

Two of Igor Stravinsky’s most famous works include the ballets Petrouchka and Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring). These four hand transcriptions makes for a interesting contrast and are quite enjoyable in their own right. Both of these piano duets are performed by Graziella Concas and Dario Strazzeri. The MP3s are available from The Piano Society.
