Voodoo Economics - Nighttime Sabbaticals
Voodoo Economics has obviously never heard of the sophomore slump. As good as their first album was, their second effort titled Nighttime Sabbatical pushes the envelope and widens the range and emotionality of their already unusual music. This is a somewhat moody album that mixes post-rock, goth and industrial into their trip-hop roots. Yet it remains pretty much unique music, sort of a musical psychodrama or a melding of Portishead with Nine Inch Nails. The highlights of this haunting album includes the classically melodic “Rene Junot”, A pulsing “Meat a Panther”, and a irresistible “Down on White Sheets”. But there something about the weird “Meathook” that bears a lot of repeated listens. Those who are looking for something different in modern rock need to download this.
The album is available from the band web site or through the Jamendo page linked below.
