Yael Bat-Shimon and Ariel Burger - Improvisations

Violinist Yael Bat-Shimon’s first free and legal online album was a beautiful collection of solo improvisations released by the ARTsomerville foundation. Her second album is an equally beautiful set of solo improvisation and duets with guitarist Ariel Burger. Again, these are melodic gems highly influenced by traditional music. Burger’s classical stylings are quite complementary to Bat-Shimon’s emotional violin. The four duets are “Andalus”, “Wheat Grass”, “Improvisation in G” and “Closing”. The rest of the tracks are solo improvisations, some being very personal take-offs on traditional music including Chinese, African-American and Hebrew. This is a well-recorded live album that is well worth the listen.

You can download these exquisite tracks at Jamendo or from The Internet Archive thorough the link below. The internet archive page will give you the choice of FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, or VBR MP3 formats.

  1. Yeah, I know it’s free and all, but why can’t artists who spend time trying to promote their music take the time to properly tag their downloads?

  2. I agree, I’m sick of downloads with mispellings or inaccurate tags, though I really appreciate the free music I don’t like having to sift through the internet to find out what the correct track names are, at the least artists should either provide completely accurate filenames, tags or an accurate track order for filenames and tags plus a txt. document that has all the song, album and artist names (but tags are best, one good job done spares all the rest of us the work). I understand that sometimes confusion can arise when an artist is writing lyrics and song titles in a language that is not their first, but some artists don’t bother to make sure the track listing on the download page matches the tags and filenames. I know this is a lot to post on the subject but it irks me.

  3. I do want to say that I think that this blog is great! I’ve found lots of great music through this blog, including this entry, and I appreciate the work it takes to find these things.

  4. Not sure what the problem is that AnnoyedInCleveland and RadFemHedonist are having. What’s wrong with the filenames, tags and track order? I did the recording, track editing, packaging, etc. What is the problem? Can someone please explain it to me?
