Jody Pou - Lettres a des amies-enfants (Lewis Carroll/Igor Ballereau)
At slightly more than 10 minutes, this recorded performance by soprano Jody Pou is shorter than I usually allow for posting. However, the song cycle Lettres a des amies-enfants is an extraordinary piece of music. The music is composed by Igor Ballereau and is based on letters to young girls by British writer Lewis Carroll who is best known for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The five songs are arranged for voice, flute, clarinet, violin, viola and cello. They are post-modern miniatures that exude a delicate balance between innocence, love and melancholy.
The work is available through the permission of Ballereau and Pou from The Free Music Archive. It is in 256kbps MP3 format.
