Vladislav Makarov - Multiplying Real - Multicello
I can’t think of another solo cello album, so that makes Vladislav Makorov’s Multiplying - Multicello fairly unique. The main instrument is an electric cello yet it is enhanced by overdubs and preparation of the instrument using objects like bamboo and combs, reminiscent of John Cage’s prepared piano. Makarov also tends to play the instrument like a guitar which causes the end result to be like a lower octave Derek Bailey. This is an album of surprises. Makorov makes an array of sounds that often seems to outrace his imagination. Some will be bewildered by the cascades of sound but I find it utterly fascinating.
The album is available from The Clincal Archives records in 320kbps Mp3.
