The Bird Ensemble is influenced heavily from the jazz fusion and minimalist movements of the seventies. The result of this delicate combination is quite evident on their free and legal online album The Last Songbook. It is a gentle but engrossing collection of instrumental music that is melodic yet quite beautiful. It sounds highly arranged but still fresh and spontaneous. “Mr Moss” and “West Helena are two highlight tracks that should endear you to the quietly stimulating sound of this band. It is a splendid effort.
