Entertainment for the Braindead - Hydrophobia

Genre: Ambient, Pop, Folk

Cologne musician Julia Kotowski, who goes under the name of Entertainment For The Braindead, plays all the instruments (guitar, ukulele, tin flutes, bells, etc.) on her albums and records in her parent’s living room. This might account for the casual vibes emanating from your speakers and floating in the air like super-light cotton candy. Julia’s voice is a delicate treat that almost fades out before it reaches your ears. The songs on her free online album titled Hydrophobia are peaceful late afternoon delights with intelligent lyrics and gently cascading guitars. This is the perfect album for your quiet moments.

The album is available in 320kbps MP3 from the Internet Archive through the link below or from the artist’s web page. You will also find another album on her web site titled Hypersomia but I’ve been unable to get the links to work. Perhaps I’ll review it once (if?) they are ever fixed.

  1. Her other album is called Hypersomnia. The download link for that one wasn’t working for a while, but it currently works again for me.

  2. Thanks for this link - what a lovely sound. It’s hard to believe music of this quality can be had for free. Both albums are well worth listening to.

  4. It’s good to see Julia getting some recognition. Machtdose has named Hydrophobia as its favourite netlabel album of 2008:
