The reviewers on Distemper’s Jamendo page seem to be in agreement that the group is the best Ska-punk band from Russia. I’ don’t know just how big that category is but they certainly know how to rock. Having never heard any other Russian Ska-Punk bands, I can not offer an opinion but I will say this may be one of the best Ska-Punk bands I’ve heard, perhaps bowing only to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Specials, and Let’s Go Bowling on a good day in Fresno. Distemper have two albums freely available from Jamendo. The titles are probably badly translated but, for better or worse, they are Think Me is Your Friend and To Me on a Dick…!!!. I’m pretty sure the latter title is supposed to be describing a particular anatomically impossible sexual act that I have sometimes suggested in anger. The band itself has been around since 1989 so these are no overnight sensations. Both albums offer top-notch tracks bolstered by a crisp brass section, sharp guitar riffs and a pleasant but abrasive vocalist. I am sure the words are rude and punkish but since they are in Russian I’ll leave the lyrical analysis to someone else. The beat and overall musical fun is enough for me.
