Mary Shelley Overdrive - Hideous Sexy
Mary Shelley Overdrive has all the attitude expected from a hardcore metal/post-punk group. From the name to the high velocity music to the gloriously exploitative artwork on their new free and legal EP, this is a band that is not afraid to look you straight in the face and sneer.
Their EP, Hideous Sexy, is a short 15 minutes album of cover tunes ranging from Bo Diddley to The White Stripes. There are also some nice versions of songs by Black Flag, Devo, The Vaselines and others. Some of the better tracks include The Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips”, Blue Oyster Cult’s “This Ain’t The Summer of Love” and Black Flag’s “Wasted. However the real stunner is “Who Do You Love” in which the band manages to take the blues rocker by the late great Bo Diddley and turn it into a Gothic nightmare. This is a neat brief EP of cover songs that will please your inner punk.

Just for the record, I attempted to download it again (from the good ol’ USA) and it worked just fine so I hope it was a glitch.

damn! it wont download, 2share, or not 2bloodyshare, that is the damn question, innit? try megaupload?=all the slots are currently in use *snicker*snicker* none o which helps me…hmmm
why not simply put it up on jamendo?

Ok, I downloaded it a third time. No problem, worked on my first try. And I am no fan of 2share. I’m not denying you are having problems but if it doesn’t work give it a few tries. It does take the easily missed download link a while to show up. Even on Jamendo, I usually have to try 2 or 3 times to get the album download to start. BTW, putting the EP on Jamendo is a good idea. Share sites tend to be unreliable and temporary and Jamendo has a much easier interface than clunky 2share.

no go, dude, 2share, hideous_sexy.rar download always stops atbelow 10%. tried many times, or maybe it’s just my location, india? i dunno. magaupload will not let me download without downloading the megaupload tool bar and firefox (or use IE) AND forcing me to boot into windows…none of which i wish to do, as my windows VM on my mac has no antivirus/spyware protection, and therefore never on-line. this seems like a kick-ass album, and it sure sucks cribbing about it, MSO putting it up free and all. ah, well…

Sorry about all the problems you were having Vijay, I’m happy you were finally able to get the album. All the postive feedback we’ve gotten has been humbling, and it amazes us that to think that our little EP is being heard all over the world.

Hey, Soilworker … feel free to host Hideous Sexy. As for our first disc (Shock Theatre) it’s gone back into the vault until Halloween. The disc has some problems we’d like to correct (we also want to expand it with a few new songs.) When it’s done, though, you’re welcome to host it.
