Bach - The French Suites
The French Suites by Johann Sebastian Bach were composed between 1722 and 1725. They are a collection of traditional dance pieces including the Menuet, Gigue, Sarabande, and others. While called dances, the composer clearly meant them to be enjoyed in both the concert hall and the ballroom. I highly recommend these delightful works as a first listen for those unfamiliar with the Baroque era and classical music in general.
Complete recordings of all six suites are presented by The Piano Society. The pianist is Gregario Szames who does an excellent job bringing these masterful works to life. If you have been living under a rock and never heard any Bach before, this is a great place to start.
The complete set of suites is available as separate tracks in 128kbps MP3.
