Mike Sebastian & Daniel Barbiero - Live at Sangha - August 14, 2004

Woodwind player Mike Sebastian and bassist Daniel Barbiero offers this duo session for downloading. While it might be called jazz, its tone is meditative, almost spiritual sounding. “Zen jazz” might be a good working description. Sebastian plays tenor and soprano saxophones on these tracks . He tends to favor long flowing lines rather than the fast rough phrasing of most current saxophonists. Barbiero has a melodic tendency that supports the saxophonist well. “Saezuri” may be the best track. The song has an strong Asian sensitivity. Barbiero’s bowed bass over Sebastian’s soprano lines is captivating. This is very creative improvisational music that is worth the time and effort to listen to.

The six tracks for Live at Sangha’s are available in 160kbps MP3. You’ll find quite a few other MP3s featuring Mike Sebastian in other settings and they are all worth a listen.
