Century of Aeroplanes - Two Children Moving In Opposite Directions

The excellent electro-acoustic group Century of Aeroplanes returns with another online album, this time from Greed Recording. Two Children Moving In Opposite Directions again presents a wide range of ambient styles in its ten tracks but is a coherent and satisfying whole. Some tracks evoke Reichian minimalism (”41 Figures” and “Dance No. 2″) while others reveal a strong influence from the drone-rock of Sonic Youth. “Rebuttal To Fundamentalism” is a good example as it exhibits a little of both worlds. “Spelling Bee Stings” is atypically lively and features some stunning violin work. “Postcard” is a charming piece with an asian sensitivity. My favorite track is “100 More Years”. It is a very melodic work with a barren beauty that reminds me of northern lights and open spaces. As much as I liked Collier and company’s previous effort, I have to say that Two Children is even better.

The album is available in VBR MP3 (ave. 156kbps). If you like the music, you can support the artist by buying the deluxe CD-R edition with much better sound and artwork.
