Tom La Meche - several albums
Tom La Meche plays a smooth jazz style bordering on new age and the exotic. He plays all the instruments on his albums with guitar being his primary love. He uses sampling primarily to set up the jazz-funk beat. There an easy going urban feel to most of his music. If you like your jazz smooth and in a groove, you’ll like this.
Personnel is his first album and is one that is mostly in the jazz-funk mode. His guitar sound has echoes of Earl Klugh in the up-beat tunes such as “Groovy E-T Funk”. More contemplative pieces like “Novembre” shows a substantial Pat Metheny influence. Voyageur starts with a smooth urban jazz track but the rest of the album veers into new age and world sounds. “Oriente” has a raga feel as does “Reve”. “Pan” is a hypnotic track featuring LaMeche on flute. I especially like the Brazilian inluenced “Ver de Lune” and the title track. Voyageur is my favorite of the three albums. Blog is the most recent and has a quieter setting. His calm and tasteful guitar stylings are especially well showcased here.
Personnel and Voyageur are in 128kbps MP3 while Blog is in 256kbps MP3. You can download by individual tracks from the link below or get the albums by bittorrent through Jamendo.
