Atomic Tom - Anthems For The Disillusioned
Listening to Atomic Tom makes me feel like Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where he keeps saying “Who Are These Guys?”. From the first track on their EP Anthems For The Disillusioned it is clear this is no amateur fly-by night Indie band. This is a group with a clear sound and sense of identity throughout the entire EP. Vocalist Luke White may be faulted for sounding a bit too much like Robert Smith of The Cure but there are worst things he can sound like. A better comparision can be made to The Dandy Warhols or Pedro The Lion. “Secret Fascination”, a pulsing ode to obsession, is my favorite song on the album. “Maybe I’m Wrong” is a wistful love ballad with a streak of cynicism. while “Upside Down” ends the 18 minute album with a virtuoso display of musicianship. This is a group whose accessiblility and sharp musical hooks may disquise how smart it really is.
The EP is available in 192kbps. If you enjoy it, support the artists by purchasing the CD with higher quality sound.
