The Banjo Consorsium - Le Debut

The Banjo Consorsium from the Seedsounds netlabel creates an interesting combination of folk elements and electronic musics. The ensemble uses guitars and banjo to create a melodic riff then embellishes with modern beats and electronic effects. Unlike most folktronic excursions, this one has a light and breezy touch. The first track. “Une SoirĂ©e Kebekoise”, starts with a short repeated musical phrase on guitar and banjo then adds a raga beat. “The Kwartet” is minimalist sounding evoking comparisions to Phillip Glass. “This Is Promess” starts with a repetitive guiter theme and evolves into a small village of sounds. The last track, “Tuesday Craker” features banjo most prominently accompanied by electronic squeals and a bagpipe-like drone. It’s my favorite track on the album. Considering the name of the group, I was hoping for more use of the banjo but this is a minor complaint. Anyone looking for something a little different in the electronic music genre should check it out.

You can download the full album in VBR MP3, OGG, or AAC format.
