Albéniz - España: Six Albums Leaves
My fiancee was thrilled to find I would be featuring Isaac Albeniz’s Espana: Six Album Leaves as it is her all-time favorite piano work. I’m pretty fond of it myself. I know of no other classical work that encapsulates the range and feeling of Spanish music like this piece does. The pianist is Chris Breemer.
The work starts with a prelude. The rest of the composition evokes the feel of various Spanish dances. The second piece “Tango” is one of Albeniz’s most popular compositions and has been widely transcribed for other instruments. Of the others, I especially like the “Capricho Catalan”. My fiancee gives her vote to the “Malaquena”.
