Takeshi Nakamura - two albums

The album cover for Ordinary Days fits the music perfectly. Takeshi Nakamura creates ice cold electronica full of bleeps and glitches that are seemily outside human contact but not outside human emotions. The music hooks the listener into the composer’s own strange dimension. Experimental and abstract, it still manages to be quite accessible to the listener. A typical track would be “Killing Time”, starting with a brief riff and then building with electronic bloops and bleeps operating both rhythmically and arhythmically. Despite its title, “Peaceful Days” places the listening in a disquieting environment. “Voices” is my favorite track, using computerized voice and polyrhythm to form an engaging work.

While Ordinary Days at least manages to stay grounded, My Musical Shame soars out of orbit. Rhythm and tonality are forsaken for sound collages that are structured but chaotic sounding. Nonetheless the music is riveting and rewarding for the attentive listener. Nakamura’s music may not be to everybody’s liking but I challenge you not to be moved by it.

The albums are available by separate tracks or album zip in 192kbps MP3.
