I can’t describe why, but Music of the African Arab is my favorite and Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer is my least favorite. Decide for yourself.

  1. I downloaded all! 70 fantastic songs! Thank you and mr. Mohammed. My favourite is the Ibir Geran of the magic carpet. Excellent. In Greece we love arabian music.

  2. I was raised on “Port Said,” which my father bought after living in Beirut for 2 years. My entree to Arabic music, Bollywood music, and so much more beyond my provincial Memphis childhood. My favorite album when I was a child–and “Hela Hope” and the title track my favorite songs. (Or maybe “Bint il Geran”?) I was so happy to see, when I grew up, that he is indeed well-known, and has other things available.

  4. Myself and my family grew up on this album. We would play it consistently at my syrian grandmothers house until we wore either the record or the needle out. We picked up another copy of the album, but vinyl only lasts for so long before rick krispies set in!

I went to el-bakkar.com and downloaded the music last year, but when I went there again this year (2008) the download links were deactivated. I wrote and asked why, but no response. If they read this, PLEASE put them back on!

If you can get these albums, GET THEM as they are wonderful to listen to and provide hours of enjoyment. The only album we has was the Port Said album, but the title track (port said), plus sauda sauda, hela hope, etc, are among many favorites.

    Hope this helps and enjoy!

  6. My father George David, played the Doumbek on all of these albums. Although Eddie Koshak if given sole credit for precussion, my fathers doumbek is the 1st thing you hear when you open Mohammed El’Bakaars web page! Eddir was a dear friend of my fathers and they played on many albums together. These Albums were cut in Brooklyn NY. My father passed away on 3/3/08 but he will live forever as long as people continue to enjoy the music he loved to play so much!

  8. Hi Federico. I can read Spanish but I’m terrible at writing it so I hope you can translate this. The El-Bakker albums are no longer free. Anyone that wants them can buy them at Amazon but the free downloads are, alas, no longer.
