Welcome

Welcome to Free Albums Galore, a full-album “mp3 blog” for listeners of eclectic music. What distingiushes Free Albums Galore from other mp3 blogs?

1. I post only complete albums, not individual or scattered tracks.
2. I post only albums with permanent off-site hosting, unlike other album blogs like Hepcatwilly.
3. I post only legally free albums, instead of blindly hoping copyright owners won’t mind me distributing their music.
4. I post at least one complete album per day.

I won’t link to files that require site registration before downloading, or to files with restrictive DRM. I also won’t link to albums with seperate tracks hosted as a single, inseperable MP3, even for genres like Deep House (at Fleep). From the classical music world, I consider any work at least 20 minutes in length to be a “complete album”, but there will be exceptions (ala Mozart’s wonderful 40th Symphony). This blog was originally hosted at blogspot until I tired of its meager features and abandoned it for a WordPress-enabled blog host. The ads on this blog support my gracious blog host, not me.

If you can recommend any online, free, legal, complete albums (or lengthy classical works), feel free to e-mail me at freealbumsgalore@yahoo.com.

To easily download all album tracks on a page or post in a few simple clicks, I suggest using Firefox (which is better than other web browsers for a multitude of reasons) and the DownThemAll extension.

EDIT: On January 1st, 2006, I handed over this blog to Marvin.

  1. Hey Luke, a question - is it fair to draw traffic away from the sites hosting the files? It seems your intentions are to drive traffic to the sites offering the sounds, but then you link directly to the sound files, serving as a middle man while they still get the bandwidth usage. I wrestle with this dilema in my playlists at Webjay and Oddio. Some sites have written asking to be linked to, but to allow them to share the actual aound files from their own site. Your thoughts?

  2. I almost always link to the site or download page in my post if I link directly to the files below the Download header. I link directly to files when they are not actually linked to from any page, or when readers would have to wade through long, messy, or other-language pages to find the correct download links. Because I usually link to the host site somewhere in my post, so I do not believe it is a problem.

  10. Very glad to play Hadyn 88th. Have DVD in which Dohnanyi (grandson of the composer) rehearses London Philarmonia in this piece but without a full performance. Congratulate Columbia Orchestra on a delightful performance.

Got a free album for your list, it will be available to the end of the year. Feel free to dig it or ditch it. The style is electronica/acoustic downtempo kind of thing.

  22. Last month I released Politics Apocalypse, a full length album using the creative commons licence attribution 3.0. This allows you to use the music however you please (including in commercial projects) so long as you give credit. Since last month we have had over 3000 album downloads.

We accept donations, and we have a name-your-own-price CD; which is a unique concept where you can name your own price (starting at cost price) for a CD. We have had some orders and heaps of positive feedback.

The album is political post-industrial rock with an interesting mix of classical instruments, guitars, electronic beats, and a dash of aussie hip-hop.

You can download the whole 11 track album for free at our website.
